After winter comes spring, so it’s time to set our sights on preparing for the warmer months ahead. Although we still have some time, preparing for spring ahead of time is a good idea because of how neglected the outside of our homes can get over the winter when we spend the majority of our time indoors. Once the warm weather arrives, you will be prepared to take on the home maintenance challenges that come with transitioning from frigid temperatures to warmer temperatures. The following are some tips to get your home in tip-top shape for spring.
Get Landscaping Ready
Fix or replace cracked garden hoses and make sure you have the correct landscaping tools for your springtime landscaping plans. If there’s no snow on the ground, take the opportunity to rake away debris like leaves and sticks from walkways and sidewalks. Pressure wash concrete areas that have been neglected during winter.
Spring Cleaning
It’s cliché, but necessary! Clean windows, fireplaces, ceiling fans and any other areas that don’t make it on your regular cleaning list. Get a head start on it so that by the time spring rolls around, you can focus on the exterior of your home, which will likely need more TLC from the winter months.
Heating and Cooling Systems
If there are any issues with your heating and air conditioning systems, now is a good time to call for a service person, considering the price will likely skyrocket in just a few months. Now is also a good time to clean or replace air filters, and buy extra if disposable.
Exterior Maintenance
The exterior of your home has seen the most wear and tear this winter season so this will be the biggest project of them all. Replace caulking around windows and doors as needed, tend to any cracks or broken shingles on the roof and clean out the gutters and downspouts for proper drainage.
