Making an Eerie Entrance: How to Decorate the Porch for Fall

Fall is a fun time of year to decorate the house, and that includes the porch! With the weather turning a bit chilly, creating a cozy atmosphere is top priority. It’s also exciting to decorate using fall staples like pumpkins and haystacks and celebrating fall holidays like Halloween and Thanksgiving, so give your home some curb appeal with these ideas for decorating the porch.

Mums in Rustic Planters

Seasonal mums placed in rustic planters are the perfect fall addition to your porch, especially orange mums. Place a planter on either side of your door with a seasonal welcome mat in between and voila – you can still garden in the fall and the flowers will fit perfectly with the changing season.

Pumpkins, Pumpkins and More Pumpkins

It wouldn’t be fall without going pumpkin picking, so display those plump pumpkins on your porch with flair. If you have a tendency to go overboard, simply put an even amount on each side so it doesn’t look visually overwhelming.

Rocking Chair

For those times you want to enjoy the crisp, cool air that fall offers, a rocking chair will come in handy. Add a cozy plaid blanket and enjoy a pumpkin spiced latte for an enviable fall porch your neighbors will want to copy.

Corn Stalks

In addition to or instead of pumpkins, use corn stalks to adorn your porch steps. It’s a different approach to the seasonal décor we’re used to seeing and it’s definitely eye-catching for your guests as they walk up to enter your home.

Chalkboard Sign or Reclaimed Wood

Write a seasonal greeting such as “Give Thanks,” “Boo,” “Fall,” or simply “Welcome” on either a chalkboard sign or a piece of reclaimed wood for a rustic look. The good thing about using a chalkboard sign is the kids can have fun updating it for beginning of fall, Halloween, Thanksgiving or anything else they want to celebrate.

Add Cozy Blankets and Pillows to Porch Swing

Use what you already have on the porch and update it for a fall makeover. Simply add seasonal blankets in rich colors such as orange or red as well as fall accent pillows to your porch swing to give the porch a cozy and welcoming feeling.

Faux Leaves

Use faux leaves to adorn your porch along with your display of pumpkins or other gourds as a fall accent. Use the fake leaves to adorn candles placed inside of lanterns or create a DIY wreath.
